Pond windows are not only an aesthetic investment. They are also an investment in monitoring the health of the Koi without inducing stress associated with catching koi for inspections. Ulcers and other conditions often begin on the bottom side of the koi. Ulcers can develop around the pectoral or ventral fins and go unnoticed from a top-down perspective only. Catching symptoms early will help identify and treat problems sooner.
As a tip, sometimes it helps to record a video of the koi in the window. Then you can zoom in on concerns and provide a screenshot to your veterinarian.
We have personally found that unwell koi often rest in the calm nook created by the Pond Portal Frame. This gives us the opportunity to quickly identify a koi whose behavior is abnormal and investigate closer for additional symptoms.
